The Metropolitan Police's decision to establish a specialist unit dedicated to protecting Jewish communities is a step in the right direction, but it is just the beginning of a much-needed comprehensive strategy. The unit's focus on combining neighbourhood policing with counter-terrorism capabilities is a smart move, but it must be supported by broader systemic changes to address the root causes of antisemitism. The data reveals a clear pattern of increased hate crimes following the Hamas attack on Israel, highlighting the need for proactive measures to prevent further escalation. The government's commitment to enhancing communal security and increasing funding for initiatives like Jewish Culture Month is a positive development. However, the calls for more aggressive action, such as proscribing the Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps and faster responses to alleged incitement at pro-Palestinian protests, are also valid.
